State.
That’s the expectation for every Hawk baseball team as the season opens. And according to the upperclassmen, the team is shaping up to be one of the best to come through the program.
With the Hawks returning seven starters, and having seven players on the team committed to play college ball, they are looking to not just make another state appearance, but leave with a gold medal around their necks.
“I think that last year was a really good year for us, but I think that this year will be just as even better,” senior Spencer Browning said. “With all of the guys that are returning as starters, we definitely can get a state title.”
Coming off of a massive 36-6 season last year that saw the team finish as the #8 ranked program in Texas and #2 in Division 4A, the roster is loaded with the kind of production that wins championships. The lineup features elite hitters like senior Hunter Rose, who posted a .430 batting average and a 10-1 record on the mound, and Spencer Browning who hit .347 with a perfect 6-0 record as a pitcher.
With a rotation that includes these key players, plus five other returning starters, the Hawks aren’t just returning a decent team—they are returning a core that combined for over 30 wins last season.
“Having multiple returners to the team is huge. You get guys back who have more experience and are more mature,” senior Walker Wright said. “No doubt this team has a chance to win it all.”
