The Lady Hawks will play the north Lamar Pantherettes to close out district play today. This game will determine whether the Lady Hawks will be seeded first or second in the small division for playoffs as they hope to make a playoff run.
“We need to work as a team and not play down to their standards,” junior Miley Cook said. “I think last time we played North Lamar we played down a little so this game we need to really execute our game style.”
North Lamar is not the only game with high stakes though. It could be the Lady Hawks last game at any time.
“It’s like for every game and season, we know there’s a next game. And especially on Friday, we know we’re making it to the playoffs,’ sophomore MaryClaire Beck said. “But once you get into the playoffs, you don’t know if you’re going to play again.”
For most players, they have next season to look forward to but not for all.
“And so especially for seniors, it could be their last soccer game ever,” MaryClaire said.
On top of the possibility of it being the last game of the season, it will be the girls last playoff run with head coach Christa Henry.
“There’s gonna be more risk round 1. I feel like it’s just gonna be a lot more intense,” sophomore Emma Cassil said. “Everyone’s gonna be wanting to play their best to honor coach C in her years that she’s been here.”
