If you’re planning to try out the new Panera Bread tomorrow, Feb. 26, be prepared for a wait. The chain is having a promotion to celebrate its grand opening, and the first 100 customers will receive a year of free “You Pick Two” meals, allowing them to mix and match soups, salads, and sandwiches.
“We’re going to get up super duper early and be there before they open,” junior Kennedy McBride said. “We’ll chill in my car but as soon as people start showing up, we’ll make a run for it. It will be worth it if we get it.”
Located at 4002 St. Michael Drive, the new bakery cafe is at the site of the former Texas Roadhouse and is shared with First Watch, a popular breakfast spot scheduled to open later this spring. Doors will open at 6 a.m.
“I think the new Panera Bread opening is a really good thing for everyone,” junior Zeph Craig said. “It will give us students a new place to get food and hangout other than all of the chicken places around here. It’s healthy too.”
The addition of a healthier alternative is a big selling point for students tired of the local fast food chains. Beyond the menu, the new 3,600 square foot facility is designed with a modern and student-friendly layout. It features community tables, free Wi-Fi, and a covered outdoor patio as well.
“I’ve been waiting for this for what feels like forever,” freshman Evan Heinstchel said. “Everytime my family is out of town we always stop at a Panera Bread and it’s always been my favorite tradition, if that’s what you would call it. I’m so excited we finally have Panera here now.”
