Following the resignation of Head Football Coach Josh Gibson, the district named Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Darby the new athletic director yesterday afternoon.
Superintendent Chad Pirtle made the announcement on the football field before the football team, school board members, district administrators, and local media.

“Jonathan Darby has demonstrated a strong commitment to our student-athletes, our athletic programs, and the values of Pleasant Grove ISD,” Mr. Pirtle said. “His leadership, experience, and deep understanding of our district make him well-prepared to step into the role of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, and we are confident he will continue to build on the tradition of excellence at Pleasant Grove.”
After 14 years at the helm of the PG athletic department, Gibson resigned last week to take a job with Symmetry, a sports construction company based in Mount Pleasant.
Darby joined the district in 2019 after serving as a graduate assistant at TCU. He and his wife Paige have a son, Harrison, and a daughter on the way.
