Pride in Motion Band is advancing to state in San Antonio on Wednesday, Nov 13. They advanced by placing seventh at the area competition on Saturday Nov 2 in Lindale. The band has been working non-stop to prepare for the season — they’ve had morning and after school practice, even practices over summer break to make it here.
“I was definitely expecting to place eighth,” senior Jared Thrash said. “We showed up for practice at 7 a.m. Monday, and it didn’t feel like we’re preparing to go to state, but we’re all really excited.”
For Jared and other band students, making it to state didn’t just happen on its own.
“Marching season starts in the summer,” sophomore Arianna Williamson said. “It takes months of blood, sweat, and tears, literally. I just feel that it didn’t go to waste and we worked really hard as a family.”
While each individual band member took a part in the success, there were other factors in play.
“Last year’s show was a lot more complicated to play and marginalize,” Jared said. “This year our show was simpler, which made it easier to perfect. In the end, everything comes down to tiny details.”
Hopefully this year’s good fortune will continue as the band puts their best foot forward in the upcoming state competition.
“We completed a goal for the year,” Jared said. “We’re going to go and put our best performance out there.”
