If you think that the band only performs at the Friday football games, think again.

The same show you see at half time is the same routine they have been performing at marching contests all fall, part of a demanding competition season which requires a lot of time and practice.
Their next contest is Saturday, and if they finish in the top five, they will advance to the state marching contest in San Antonio.

“This weekend is our UIL area which is what we’re really working for,” senior Loriann Hensel said. “If we get past that, we will go to the state which will be on Oct. 31 to Nov. 5.”

The band has been practicing all fall to get ready for the UIL contest.
“We’re rehearsing every day obviously, and the band directors are encouraging us outside of class to practice music and work on marching fundamentals and stuff like that,” senior Timothy Overlock said.

Timothy, the captain of the band who also serves as a drum major, said that he is excited to see what will happen after this week’s contest.
“We’re not trying to be better than the other bands, We’re trying to be better than what we were before the competition,” Loriann said.

Last weekend the band competed in the Battle for the Spear Marchin Classic in Winnsboro and received first place in their classification and third place overall.
Loriann said she feels nervous because they’re going to be hitting a big step from what they did last week. This weekend’s competition in Lindale is going to be a big opportunity for them.

“Going into this weekend’s contests feel like it’ll be more of a challenge than the Texas High contests, but I think we will do good and we have really good potential for the show,” junior Emily Hobbs said.
