As the season of love approaches, junior Ginger Wright recalls memories of her kindergarten Valentine’s Day party.
“The night before Valentine’s Day, I would make my friends’ bags, and if it was my best friend, I’ll put a little more in there.” Ginger said, “Then at school, you’d get to see what everybody brought.”
Although kindergarten gift exchanges are rich in nostalgia, her favorite Valentine’s day gift came from her house.
“One year, my dad completely forgot, and he got me a gift last minute. He found a little bee with a headband that had hearts on it,” Ginger said. “He said, ‘I don’t know if you’ll like this, if you don’t, I’ll return it. I am sorry.’ I still have that bee — it’s the cutest thing.”
Valentines Day gifts come in many shapes and sizes, but chocolate has the heart of some students.
“I’m a big foodie, so my most favorite gift that I got from a Valentine is probably chocolate,” senior Sophee Wyatt said. “I’d have to say I really like the milk chocolate that has cream inside of it. That had to be one of my childhood favorites.”
Beyond the celebrations and being surrounded by loved ones, there are those who wish they could celebrate Valentine’s Day with people who now only exist in their memories.
“I wish I could celebrate Valentine with my grandma because I don’t remember Valentine’s Day or any holiday with her, and it’d be fun,” Ginger said.
Although everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day in different ways, it is usually a time for people to express their love and spend time with their favorite people.
“This holiday is just simply about love, so it was looked at like couples,” Sophee said. “However, it could be with someone that likes friends, family members, or anyone.”
