Of all the things in Lost and Found— lunchboxes, water bottles, soap dispensers, and a T-Rex toy, the T-Rex toy isn’t even the most interesting thing found.
“Years ago, a student came up here and he had an artificial leg, and said, where do I put this?” Office Secretary Joyce Cook said. “And I said, well, I guess I better see if someone’s missing a leg.”
The lost and found is a room across from the counselors office that is mostly used for lost items and storage. However, it used to be a school store with snacks and supplies called the DECA. And at what is now claim time, students could buy materials from the store.
“The DECA store was established so that students could learn how to manage money, sell a product, and learn from that aspect,” Mrs. Cook said.
Now the space is used for FedEx and UPS deliveries as well as storage for lost items. Any item turned into the office first goes on the table in the foyer and after a few days, makes its way to the lost and found room.
Staff aren’t the only ones with stories. Former student Delane Morrow lost a necklace very important to her, and found it randomly in the summer.
“I looked in the art lost and found, the gym lost in found, and every single lost and found I looked in, it just wasn’t there,” Delane said. “And so during the summer, when we were doing tech rehearsals, I went all the way up to the front of the school, thinking it wasn’t gonna be there, and there it is, sitting right on top of a hoodie I lost.”
