When their name was called at the Universal Cheerleaders Association last year the excitement was overwhelming. The cheerleaders jumped up to hug their peers, screamed with excitement, and cried with relief knowing all of their hard work had paid off.
Continuing the excitement, the girls were presented with their championship rings at this year’s watermelon supper.
“Honestly I was just so shocked and proud.” senior Kenlie Demedio said. “We worked so hard and becoming national champions was really a dream come true.”
The unexpected surprise of receiving their rings caught many of the girls off guard causing some of the initial emotions to resurface.
“It was very shocking getting the rings. We weren’t told beforehand, so having that surprise was an amazing experience,” junior Jasmine Kahler said. “I honestly forgot we were getting rings after summer started, so it was a mega shock.”
The rings are more than just jewelry — they are a reminder of the team’s hard work and dedication to perfecting their sport. Along with this, the girls also see the rings as a motivation for future success.
“They definitely do motivate me,” Jasmine said. “I want to keep adding to my collection so when I look back on my awards, I can remember the great memories cheer provided me with.”
