Starting the season ranked No. 2 in the state, the varsity football Hawks take on the Atlanta Rabbits tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Hawk Stadium. The Hawks are returning nine starters on offense and eight on defense, giving them plenty of in game experience.
“One of our main strengths, in my opinion, is that we are returning 17 starters who have played a lot of football. I think about guys like Jaidun Scales, and Jaylon Foster who have played on varsity since their freshmen year, and have played a significant amount of snaps,” coach Jonathan Darby said.
With the new season, there are also new faces on the squad. Starting quarterback, junior Colton Yancey is a three-star quarterback who moved in from Whitewright, Texas. He is looking to become the leader of the squad and lead them all the way to the state championship game.
“Winning this game against Atlanta would give us a lot of momentum going forward and it would set the tone of how good we are going to be this season,” Colton said. “I feel very confident in our team seeing how we have prepared during spring and fall camp, and I am excited for this week’s game.”
