The Varsity tennis team recently concluded its district tournament on April 23 and 24 at Texas High School, securing multiple spots in the regional competition. The team performed well and is planning on taking six teams to compete in the tournament. Regionals are set to take place May 8th, and the players are eager to showcase their skills in a harder competition.
“I am excited to go to regionals because I didn’t get to go last year,” sophomore Hinsley Patterson said. “Although the competition will be harder, I think I will have even more fun than I did at district.”
The team faced a setback just before the district tournament when a player unexpectedly left the team to concentrate on academics, forcing another player to step in. Although it was a setback, the team performed well at district and regionals, pushing five teammates to the state competition.
“I went to state with Lynleigh Henderson last season and we played really well,” senior Andy Tye said. “I feel like we have a good chance of going back again because we are stronger this year.”
Looking ahead, the season will end at the annual tennis banquet on May 18th. Coach Picket will present funny awards and reflect on the season’s highlights. Additionally, senior team members will have the opportunity to share their experiences and memorable moments, making it a heartfelt occasion to end the year on a good note.
“The annual tennis banquet is an important part of our end to the season,” Coach Erik Pickett said. “The banquet is an opportunity to celebrate the team’s successes throughout the year and recognize our seniors.”
Junior Zachary Bobo, junior Jackson Tomberlain, junior Lynleigh Henderson, senior Andy Tye, and freshman Gabrielle Erie will be leaving for San Antonio to compete at the state competition on May 13th.
“I’m super excited to get to go to state again this year and get another shot,” Lynleigh said, “we can definitely do great things of we give it all we have and leave it all on the court,”
