On Tuesday night the Pleasant Grove community joined together at Hawk Stadium to congratulate Landon Jackson and Nick Martin for being the first Pleasant Grove athletes to get drafted to the NFL.
Graduating in 2021, Nick and Landon were on the 2017 and 2019 State Championship winning teams. After graduation Landon went on to play for Louisiana State University and eventually University of Arkansas. Nick went on to play for Oklahoma State University.
Their jersey numbers 6 and 40 have been officially retired meaning no future PG football players will be able to wear that number.
Nick and Landon were picked fairly early in the draft, both being selected in the third round, Landon at 72 and Nick following shortly after at 75. Landon will be playing for the Buffalo Bills and Nick will be playing for the San Francisco 49ers.
Nick wasn’t able to attend the send off but there is rumor of another send off when he comes to Texarkana.
These athletes and their success have made such an important impact on the younger generation of Pleasant Grove athletes.
“Landon and Nick starting their NFL career made me realize that anything is possible in life, especially coming from a small town,” junior Jamarion Richardson said. “I am working to follow in their footsteps and retire jersey number two some day.”
