The average temperature this week is 80 degrees, students still wear their summer outfits to school, a lot of pools in town are still open, but Scooter’s, Starbucks, and 7 Brew have already updated their menus for the fall season.
In these menus are more than 30 different drink and food options, but from all these three coffee shops, the warm orange of pumpkin can be seen in almost all of their seasonal drinks.
“I love anything with pumpkin spice cream, whether it’s cold or hot, that’s my favorite,” counselor Jennifer Ford said.
Although pumpkin foods seem to be all the rage during the fall — getting the ball rolling for holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving — it seems to be an acquired taste for most people.
English teacher Mitzi Quinn said. “I don’t particularly like a lot of pumpkin,” English teacher Mitzi Quinn said. “I can stand a little bit, but sometimes it’s just too overpowering. I feel like I’m drinking a candle.”
Coffee shops aren’t the only option for fall drinks. For those who love to stay at home away from the cool weather, homemade–drinks will be their choice of a cozy seasonal sip.
“People will consider it a Christmas drink, but I think hot cocoa is also a fall drink because it’s warm and everything’s getting nice and chilly,” senior Alexia Gipson said. “I’ll make it myself, and I just like sipping my hot cocoa when I’m doing school work, or something relaxing.”
Not only will warm seasonal drinks be available this fall, but Scooters has added brighter options like the Caramel Apple Red Bull Infusion and Caramel Apple Sparkling Float to their official menu.
“I have not tried it, but it sounds really good because I love apple flavored things, I also love caramel and maybe throw in a little cinnamon,” Alexia said.
Whether people like fall flavored drinks or not, seasonal menus only stay until early November.
“My favorite fall drink is definitely a white chocolate mocha with pumpkin cold foam from Starbucks,” senior Sawyer Julien said. “I get excited every fall because of the seasonal drinks, and I kind of wish that it was all year around.”
