This year’s Texas Association of Student Councils state project theme is, “To Fight Hunger”. Student council members began their first activity for the TASC project with the game day breakfast Thursday morning. They served Poptarts to students walking into the building, giving them an opportunity to have a quick and easy breakfast.
“One of the things we’re doing is the game day breakfasts. It’s going to help supply food for our students in the morning,” Student Council Advisor Alicia Gallegos said.
Projects like this don’t just feed students. They help encourage others to aid those in need.
“There are students in school who don’t have food at home and there’s all these places that need food,” Mrs. Gallegos said. “So the student council has come together to try to provide food for everybody.”
The Student Council has already begun brainstorming new ideas for more mini projects. A food drive will be done in November, and many more plans are in the works. If these mini projects are finished, they will lead to an invite to the TASC conference in March.
“At TASC they have different breakout sessions, and each session has something else towards student leadership.” Mrs. Gallegos said. “It’s more for the kids learning about student council and what they can do for their school.”
